My Story
I am Marcelo Lubaczwski, a knifemaker from Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul. My workshop is located in the city itself and carries the essence of handcrafted work combined with a constant pursuit of innovation in Damascus steel.
Beginnings
I began making knives six years ago, when I took an online course with Master Smith Eduardo Berardo, which became a turning point in my career. It was my gateway into the world of knifemaking, and shortly afterward I developed my first major hallmark: the Tilápia knife. This fighter-style model became a great success, produced in dozens of pieces and recognized as my early signature.
Path in Damascus
In the early years, I worked exclusively with carbon steels. Four years ago, I immersed myself in the world of Damascus steel, which today is my specialty and exclusivity. I master different styles and patterns:
Turkish Damascus
Mosaic Damascus
Random pattern and its variations
W pattern and its variations
In each pattern line, my maker’s marks are applied using noble metals: silver in the random and W patterns, and 24k gold in the Turkish and mosaic patterns.
Specialties
I specialize in chef’s knives, and in 2024 I received the Best Chef’s Knife award at the Salão Paulista de Cutelaria. I also produce Bowies, hunters, and large models with the same dedication to geometry, ergonomics, and finishing.
I work with a wide range of handle materials: stabilized woods, ivories, molars, and other noble materials. All sheaths are made by me personally, in leather, custom-molded for each piece.
Instructor and Mentor
For the past three years, I have worked as a knifemaking instructor, teaching in-person courses in both carbon steel and Damascus steel. My goal is to pass on technique and passion for the craft to new artisans.
Sharpened Art Gallery
I am the creator of the Sharpened Art Gallery, a knifemaking event held in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, bringing together exhibitors, collectors, and blade enthusiasts. It is a space to showcase the strength of authorial knifemaking in Brazil.
Reconhecimento
Featured in the books Legacy of Steel I and Legacy of Steel II.
Winner of the Best Chef’s Knife award at the Salão Paulista de Cutelaria 2024.
Creator of the Tilápia, a highly acclaimed fighter-style model.
Commitment
My philosophy is clear: a knife is a true tool. I strive to unite performance, aesthetics, and authenticity in every piece, for chefs, collectors, and demanding users in the field.
Shall we talk?
If you have a knife idea—whether for the kitchen, the field, or your collection—I can turn that idea into steel.
